Backed by very eminent and successful gastroenterologists, this Department is regarded as a proud heritage of our Institution This centre is a pioneer in different Endoscopic techniques-exemplary in Eastern India with its reputation crossing the neighboring borders. Newer Endoscopic procedures have achieved milestones in treating various G.I. Ailments-where no alternative mode of management is available at times. Newer vistas of management profile of numerous Gastrointestinal/Pancreatic/Hepatobiliary disorders have been opening up and made use of in this Institution, Diagnostic Endoscopy was first initiated from this Centre, Almost all aspects of Therapeutic Endoscopy are being done in this centre, which includes: Bile-Duct Stone Extraction. Bile-Duct Stenting Nasobiliary Drainage. Endoscopic-variceal sclerotherapy. Endoscopic Variceal band ligation Endoscopic Polypectomy «Endoscopic management of bleeding ulcers Endoscopic foreign body removal 'Endoscopic Laser Therapy etc. We have provision for critically ill cases under this Dept in a modern GITU (Gastro-Intensive) Therapy Unit).This Centre organised Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Workshop in recent past very successfully.
The Department has been performing advanced surgeries in the fieid of GastroEnterology, Apart from routine surgical procedures, such as Cholecystectomy and other operations of the Hepato-Biliary system, alongwith other diseased states of the GastroIntestinal system, we are pioneer in Laparoscopic and Laser Surgery, Laparoscopic procedures, such as Cholecystectomy, Hernia operations, Uretero Lithotomy, Appendicectomy, Operations for Varicocele etc, are being done routinely, Laser is being used in operations for Piles, Fistula-in-Ano and other Ano-rectal problems and for Gastrectomies and other G.I. operations. KMC has been a pioneer in such management of surgical problems and is probably one of the few centres in Eastern India where these facilities are readily available,
We are the first in Eastern Zone to install, Double Balloon Enteroscopy. Advantage of this machine is that it has opened up a new vista in the management of various complicated Gastro Intestinal diseases-particularly diseases of small Intestine like Crohn's disease, Tuberculosis, Assessment of small Intestinal absorption defects, Polyposis, Stricture dilatation. Management of obscure GI Bleeding etc. including therapeutic maneuvers.
Only centre in India to have maximum experience in Spiral Enteroscopy for diagnosis and therapeutic measures of small intestinal diseases.
We are having facilities for comprehensive management of liver diseases with PCR Backup to diagnose and treat viral hepatitis and other laboratory investigations including Wilson screen and other metabolic and autoimmune diseases of liver.
We are having laboratory facilities including immunology and immuno histo chemistry, ELISA test, marker test of IBD, coeliac disease and tropical diseases.
We have advance Gastro Oncology Unit including both Medical and Surgical facilities.
